[Overview]
A perennial 30–70 cm tall, found in moist places in the mountains.
It has creeping underground stems.
The stem is ridged and erect, branching in the upper part.
Glandular hairs grow sparsely on the upper stem and the inflorescence.
The leaves are simple and alternate, broadly lanceolate to broadly linear, 5–14 cm long including the petiole and 1–3 cm wide, with reddish-brown dots scattered on the underside.
The leaf base gradually narrows into a winged petiole.
A raceme at the stem tip bears 10–30 flowers.
The flowers are reddish white; the corolla is 5-lobed but does not open very wide.
Glandular hairs grow sparsely on the calyx and flower stalks.
The flowers have thread-like bracts.
The flower stalk is 0.3–0.6 cm long and points slightly downward during flowering, but in fruit it lengthens to 1–1.5 cm and points obliquely upward.
The fruit is a spherical capsule 0.5 cm across, with the style remaining.
