[Overview]
An evergreen perennial that grows in its native habitat in somewhat damp places such as forest edges.
The stems spread along the ground and root at the nodes.
The leaves are simple and opposite, broadly ovate to round, 2–2.5 cm long, with entire margins.
The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils on the upper part of the stem, yellow, 2–2.5 cm across; the corolla is 5-lobed and cup-shaped.
The fruit is a spherical capsule.
[Cultivation]
Propagate by division or by stem cuttings.
It prefers sun to partial shade and fertile soil that is well drained and retains moisture.
The base of the plant can become stuffy and die back in the summer heat and humidity, so choose a well-ventilated place.
It prefers somewhat moist places, so take care not to let it dry out, and water thoroughly when the soil surface dries.
Apply base fertilizer, and in spring either place slow-release fertilizer on the soil or give diluted liquid fertilizer.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
