Citrus (genus, "Jabara")

Japanese name: じゃばら (邪払、蛇腹)
Scientific name: Citrus

[Overview]
An evergreen tree grown as a fruit tree.
It is presumed to be a natural hybrid of yuzu and kunenbo.
The alternate leaves look simple, but they are reduced compound leaves; they are entire and leathery.
The flowers are white and fragrant.
Many stamens are fused up to the middle of the filaments, forming a staminal tube.
The fruit is spherical to short-spherical, with an average weight of 130 g.

[History]
It originated in Kitayama Village, Higashimuro District, Wakayama, and was cultivated there at least as early as the Edo period.
It was registered as a variety in 1979.

[Uses]
The juice is too sour to eat fresh, but it is used as vinegar and for processing.

[Cultivation]
It suits regions that stay warm even in winter, from southern Kanto westward.
In other regions, growing it in a pot is best.
