Chrysanthemum rupestre ("Iwainchin")

Japanese name: イワインチン (岩茵蔯)
Scientific name: Chrysanthemum rupestre

Chrysanthemum rupestre

[Overview]
A perennial found on rocky ground in the alpine zone.
It has a short rhizome; the stems are slender and hard, grow in tufts, stand erect, and reach 10–20 cm tall.
The leaves are alternate and deeply pinnately divided; the lobes are linear, 1–1.5 mm wide, and the undersides are densely covered with white hairs, giving them a silvery-white appearance.
A dense corymb-like inflorescence at the top of the stem bears many yellow flower heads 3–4 mm across.
The flower heads consist only of tubular florets.
The fruit is an achene.
Oo-iwainchin is larger overall, in plant height and flower heads, and its leaf lobes are also wider.
