Japanese name: オオヤマカタバミ(大山片喰) Scientific name:Oxalis obtriangulata
[Overview]
A perennial 5–25 cm tall, found in forests from low mountains to the subalpine zone.
The rhizome is thick and bears 1–2 leaves and 1–2 flower stalks at its tip.
The leaves consist of 3 leaflets; at flowering time the leaflets are inverted-triangular, 1–2 cm long and 1.5–2 cm wide, with slightly pointed corners.
Both surfaces of the leaves are hairless or sparsely hairy, and the margins have brown hairs.
The leaflets later grow to 4.5 cm long and 6 cm wide.
At flowering time the leaf stalks are 4–10 cm long, and later extend to as much as 25 cm; they are hairless or sparsely hairy.
The flower stalk elongates before the leaves open, but is shorter than the elongated leaf stalks.
A bract is borne just below the flower.
A single white to yellowish white 5-petaled flower 2.5–3.5 cm across is borne at the tip of the flower stalk, blooming facing downward to slightly sideways.
The petals have reddish purple streaks.
The fruit is a cylindrical capsule that scatters its seeds when ripe.
