[Overview]
A perennial 5–10 cm tall, found in forests in the mountains.
The rhizome is thick and unbranched, and is densely covered with the bases of old leaf stalks.
Soft hairs grow densely on the leaf stalks, flower stalks and undersides of the leaves.
The leaves grow in bundles from the rhizome and consist of 3 leaflets.
The leaflets are obcordate, 2.5–4 cm wide, heart-shaped with a notched tip, and have blunt corners.
The flower stalk rises above the leaves and bears a small bract at about the middle.
A single white 5-petaled flower 3–4 cm across is borne at the tip of the flower stalk.
The petals often have pale purple streaks.
The fruit is an elliptic capsule that scatters its seeds when ripe.
