[Overview]
A perennial found in damp, shaded places along mountain streams.
The whole plant is covered with soft white hairs.
Stolons grow long after flowering.
The leaves are basal leaves and stem leaves borne on the flower stalk; the basal leaves have withered by the flowering season.
The stem leaves are simple and opposite, fan-shaped to round, 0.3–1.5 cm long and 0.3–1.7 cm wide, with 5–10 rounded teeth.
The petiole is about 0.2–1 cm long.
A flower stalk 4–10 cm tall is produced.
The flower stalk is tinged dark purple and usually bears one pair of leaves.
A cyme is produced at the tip of the flower stalk.
The flowers are 2–4.5 mm across, with no petals and an upright, bright yellow to yellowish-green calyx; seen from above, the flower is square.
The calyx lobes are ovate with rounded tips and turn green after flowering.
There are 8 stamens, which stand upright at flowering and are shorter than the calyx lobes; the anthers before splitting open are bright yellow.
The fruit is a capsule that splits open when ripe, revealing many seeds.
The seeds are ovate.
