[Overview]
A perennial growing at forest edges, in grasslands and in wetlands in sunny places from the mountains to the subalpine zone.
The rhizome is swollen and spindle-shaped in places and spreads by creeping sideways.
Only one basal leaf emerges from the rhizome.
The basal leaf is divided into 3 to the base and has a petiole 3–12 cm long; the lobes are broadly obovate to rhombic, 1–2 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, with serrated margins.
The flower stem grows 5–25 cm tall, and the leaves on the stem are in whorls of 3.
The stem leaves are divided into 3 to the base and have petioles 0.4–1.8 cm long; the lobes are lanceolate with serrated margins.
A single flower is borne at the stem tip.
The flowers are about 0.8–1.7 cm across and open upward, with 5 narrowly ovate white sepals that look like petals.
There are many stamens, and the anthers are white.
There are also many pistils.
The fruit is a narrowly ovate achene densely covered with hairs, and they form a globose aggregate fruit.
The receptacle is hairless.
