Cerasus serrulata cv.

Japanese name: 園里黄桜
Scientific name: Cerasus serrulata cv.

[Overview]
A cultivar of Sato-zakura.
A deciduous tree.
The tree form is umbrella-shaped.
The young leaves are tinged with reddish brown.
The leaves are simple and alternate, elliptic to obovate, with tail-like pointed tips.
The flowers open at the same time as the leaves unfold.
The flowers are borne 2–3 in umbels arising from the leaf axils, and are double, yellowish green with green streaks.

[History]
A bud sport of Fugenzo, it was discovered in 2001 by Hanyuda Ikuo in Toyooka, Suzaka, Nagano.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings or grafting.
It prefers a place with good sunlight and drainage.
If it becomes too large in a garden planting, it helps to restrict the space available for root growth with a fabric pot in order to control the size of the tree.
While it is a young tree, protect it from frost by laying straw around the base, for example.
Also, it is better not to cut the branches needlessly if there is no need.
Pests and diseases are numerous, so care is needed.

[Notes]
The name was given after the former village name (Sonosato Village).
