Japanese name: テバコモミジガサ (手箱紅葉傘、手箱紅葉笠)
Scientific name: Parasenecio tebakoensis

Parasenecio tebakoensis

[Overview]
A perennial 25–85 cm tall, found in broadleaf forests.
The underground stem extends sideways and forms new plantlets at its tip.
The stem is erect and unbranched.
There are basal leaves and stem leaves; the basal leaves have withered by the flowering period.
The stem leaves are alternate; the lower leaves are 3.5–10 cm long and 5–17 cm wide, palmately divided into 5–7 lobes.
Curly hairs grow sparsely on both surfaces of the leaves; the upper surface is not glossy, and the veins are raised on the underside.
The petiole is 3.5–7.5 cm long and wingless, its base half clasps the stem, and there are almost no ears.
The leaf sheath does not close into a cylinder.
White flower heads are borne in a panicle.
Each flower head consists of 5–6 florets, and the involucre is about 0.5 cm long.
The fruit is an achene about 0.5 cm long with a white pappus.

[Notes]
The Japanese name comes from its discovery on Mt. Tehako in Kochi.
