Parasenecio maximowiczianus var. maximowiczianus("Komoriso")
Japanese name: コウモリソウ(蝙蝠草) Scientific name:Parasenecio maximowiczianus var. maximowiczianus
[Overview]
A perennial 30–70 cm tall, found in deciduous forests in the mountains on the Pacific side.
It has a short rhizome.
The stem is slender and slightly zigzag, with brown curly hairs on the lower part.
There are basal leaves and stem leaves; the basal leaves have withered by the flowering season.
The stem leaves are simple and alternate; those in the middle of the stem are 8–10 cm long and 13–15 cm wide, triangular-hastate to pentagonal-kidney-shaped, sharply pointed at the tip, with curly hairs on both surfaces, pinnate veins, and irregular fine teeth along the margin.
A narrow wing sometimes appears on the upper part of the petiole; the base forms very small auricles that slightly clasp the stem, and the leaf sheath does not close into a cylinder.
White flower heads are borne in a conical to racemose arrangement at the stem tip.
Each flower head consists of 6–10 florets; the involucre is narrowly cylindrical, 0.75–1 cm long, with 5–7 involucral bracts.
The fruit is a cylindrical achene with a white pappus 0.6–0.7 cm long.
