Japanese name: ミヤマタネツケバナ(深山種漬花、深山種浸花) Scientific name:Cardamine nipponica
[Overview]
A small perennial, hairless overall, found on damp rocky or gravelly ground at elevations above the upper subalpine zone.
It is often found in places where snow patches remain until late in the season.
It has rhizomes that branch in the upper part, and the bases of the petioles of old basal leaves remain.
The stem is 3–10 cm tall and forms a clump.
The leaves include basal leaves and leaves alternate on the stem; they are odd-pinnately compound, 1.5–5 cm long, with usually 2–3 pairs of lateral leaflets on the basal leaves and usually 1–2 pairs on the stem leaves.
The leaflets are oblong to obovate and entire.
The terminal leaflet of the stem leaves is almost the same shape and size as the lateral leaflets, or only slightly larger.
The leaf texture is somewhat thick.
The base of the petiole of the stem leaves clasps the stem in an ear-like manner.
Several flowers are borne in a short raceme; they are white with 4 petals, and the petals are obovate, 4–6 mm long.
There are 6 stamens.
The fruit is a silique 2–3 cm long with a pointed tip.
Inside the fruit, many elliptic seeds are arranged in a single row.
