Japanese name: コスズメガヤ (小雀茅)
Scientific name: Eragrostis minor

Eragrostis minor

[Overview]
An annual 10–35 cm tall, found in sunny places such as roadsides, often growing in colonies.
There are glandular dots on the leaf sheaths, below the nodes, on the inflorescence branches, on the spikelet stalks and elsewhere.
The lower part of the stem lies on the ground and the tip rises upright.
The leaves are linear, 3–12 cm long and 0.3–0.5 cm wide, with long white hairs on the margins of the leaf sheath.
A conical spike 5–10 cm long emerges at the stem tip and bears spikelets.
The spikelets are linear-lanceolate, 0.3–0.8 cm long and 0.2 cm wide, consisting of 5–12 florets, and are slightly tinged with purple.
The lemma is obtuse at the tip, and the glumes have no glandular dots.
