Lilium ‘Formolongi’

Lilium ‘Formolongi’ (genus, "Shinteppoyuri")

Japanese name: シンテッポウユリ (新鉄砲百合)
Scientific name: Lilium ‘Formolongi’

Lilium ‘Formolongi’

[Overview]
A perennial 0.3–1.5 m tall, growing on sunny slopes, roadsides and vacant lots.
It arose from a cross between Takasago-yuri and Teppo-yuri and has characteristics intermediate between the two.
It inherits the pure white flower color of Teppo-yuri and the trait of Takasago-yuri of flowering 8–10 months after sowing.
It has an underground bulb.
The leaves are simple and alternate, densely arranged, linear to narrowly lanceolate, about 0.3–0.7 cm wide, with entire margins.
There are no petioles.
A raceme emerges at the top of the stem, bearing one to several flowers that face sideways to slightly upward.
The flowers are tubular-funnel-shaped, 15–20 cm long, and white without spots; the tepals open widely at the tips and curve back.
The outside of the tepals is usually white and not tinged with reddish purple.
The pollen is usually yellow.
The fruit is an oblong capsule.
Through repeated crossing, it has become difficult to distinguish from Takasago-yuri.
