Japanese name: デンドロビウム(キンギアナム系)
Scientific name: Dendrobium

Dendrobium

[Overview]
A group of hybrids.
An evergreen perennial.
It has white, sponge-like roots.
The stem is thick at the base and becomes slender toward the top.
The leaves are simple and alternate at the stem tips, lanceolate, glossy on the upper surface, and entire.
A flower stalk extends from the leaf axils and bears many flowers in a raceme.
The flowers are half-open and fragrant.
The lip has red spots.

[History]
It was bred from Dendrobium kingianum.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by division or by taking offshoots.
Grow it in a sunny, well-ventilated place.
In poor light, it flowers poorly.
Strong summer sun can scorch the leaves, so provide light shading in midsummer.
Bring it indoors to a sunny spot in winter.
Plant it in sphagnum moss in an unglazed clay pot.
From spring to autumn, water when the surface of the planting material begins to dry; in winter, withhold water.
It needs only a little fertilizer; place oil cake on the soil once a month from spring to early summer.
Pests include scale insects and aphids.
