Amygdalus persica var. nectarina ("Nekutarin")

Japanese name: ネクタリン
Scientific name: Amygdalus persica var. nectarina

[Overview]
A small deciduous tree.
The leaves are simple and alternate, elliptic-lanceolate, about 8–15 cm long, with coarse serrations on the margins.
The petiole is 1–1.5 cm long, and there are glandular dots at the base of the leaf.
The flowers are solitary, 5-petaled and pale reddish purple.
They often bloom before the leaves unfold.
The fruit is large and subglobose with a protruding apex, and the flesh is dense and juicy.
The fruit surface has no hairs and is smooth.

[Cultivation]
It prefers well-drained, sunny land with deep cultivated soil.
Propagate by grafting, using cleft grafting in March or bud grafting in August–September.
Pests and diseases are very numerous, so care is needed.
Care is also needed because rain during the fruiting period can cause the fruit to split.
