Aster tenuipes ("Kurumagiku")

Japanese name: クルマギク (車菊)
Scientific name: Aster tenuipes

A perennial that grows hanging down from rocks on riverbank cliffs.
The stem is 30–85 cm long and branches many times in the upper part.
The basal leaves on the flowering stem wither by flowering time.
The basal leaves of non-flowering lateral branches form rosettes; they are oblanceolate, 5–7 cm long and 7–20 mm wide, with large teeth on the upper margin.
The leaves in the middle of the stem are simple and alternate, linear-lanceolate, 5–11 cm long and 6–12 mm wide, with sparse teeth on the margin.
Flowers are borne 1–3 at the branch tips, about 2 cm across, and white.
The branches are slender and bear many linear bracts 6–15 mm long.
The involucral bracts are in 4 rows.
The achene is linear-elliptic, 3.5 mm long and 0.8 mm wide, and hairy; the pappus is 4 mm long.
