Veronica ×myriantha ("Honagakawajisha")

Japanese name: ホナガカワヂシャ (穂長川萵苣)
Scientific name: Veronica ×myriantha

Veronica ×myriantha

[Overview]
A biennial about 1 m tall, found in sunny waterside and wetland areas.
A hybrid of Kawajisha and Okawajisha, it shows characters intermediate between the two parent species.
The stems and leaves are often tinged with red.
Leaves are simple and opposite, oblong to lanceolate, with serrate margins, though some are nearly entire.
The leaf bases clasp the stem.
Racemes more than 3 times as long as the leaves arise from the leaf axils in the upper part of the stem and bear 100–150 flowers sparsely.
The corolla is 4-lobed, 5.5–7 mm across, pale purple with purple lines.
The fruit is a spherical capsule, but most are sterile.
The persistent style on the capsule is just under 2 mm long.

[History]
It was discovered in Ono, Hyogo, in 1994.
