Vicia amoena

[Overview]
A perennial found in hills and fields.
The plant turns dark reddish brown when dried.
The stem is vine-like and grows to about 2 m.
Leaves are alternate, even-pinnately compound, 15 cm long, and consist of 5–8 pairs of leaflets.
The leaflets are oblong, 1.5–3.5 cm long and 0.4–1.1 cm wide, and usually have soft white hairs on both sides.
The leaf tip has a branched tendril.
The stipules are relatively large, and the margins have several coarse teeth.
Racemes 4–15 cm long arise from the leaf axils and densely bear reddish purple pea-like flowers, all turned to one side.
In the flower, the limb of the standard petal (the reflexed part) is about as long as the claw (the tubular part).
The ovary has nectaries.
The flower-bearing part of the inflorescence is longer than the inflorescence stalk.
The fruit is a legume, narrowly elliptic, 2–2.5 cm long and 0.5–0.6 cm wide.
It contains 3–5 spherical seeds.
