Phedimus aizoon var. floribundus ("Kirinso")

Japanese name: キリンソウ (麒麟草、黄輪草)
Scientific name: Phedimus aizoon var. floribundus

Phedimus aizoon var. floribundus

[Overview]
A perennial growing in mountain grasslands, rocky places on the coast, and similar places.
It has a rhizome.
The leaves are simple and alternate, obovate to lanceolate, 2–5 cm long and 0.8–2 cm wide, with blunt serrations on the upper half.
The leaves are fleshy.
A three-branched cyme at the tip of a flower stem 10–50 cm long is densely covered with flowers.
The inflorescence has leaf-like bracts.
The flowers are deep yellow with 5 petals.
The fruit is a follicle.

[Uses]
The leaves are used as a folk remedy.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed, by division, or by stem cuttings.
It prefers sunny, well-drained soil.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Almost no fertilizer is needed if fertilizer is applied at planting; too much makes the plant leggy and prone to falling over, so use it sparingly.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
