Berberis tschonoskyana ("Obamegi")

Japanese name: オオバメギ (大葉目木)
Scientific name: Berberis tschonoskyana

[Overview]
A deciduous shrub about 2 m tall.
The branches are brown, and spines are few.
The leaves are simple, clustered on short shoots and alternate on long shoots, obovate to oblong-elliptic, 3–8 cm long and 1–2 cm wide, with entire margins.
Somewhat pendent racemes emerge at the tips of the short shoots and bear several flowers.
The flowers are greenish yellow, 6-petaled, and 6 mm across.
The fruit is oblong, 10 mm long, and ripens red.
It resembles Megi, but can be distinguished by its indistinct branch ridges and grooves, fewer spines, and larger leaves.
