Corydalis papilligera

[Overview]
A perennial 10–20 cm tall, growing along streams, in woods and in grasslands.
It has a round tuber underground.
A single flower stalk rises from the tuber.
One of the leaves on the flower stalk is a scale leaf.
Axillary buds form on the scale leaf and grow into small corms.
The leaves are 2- to 4-times ternately compound, with elliptic leaflets.
A raceme at the stem tip bears several flowers.
The flowers are 2–3 cm long and reddish purple to purple.
There are 4 petals, but the upper one is longer than the others and has a long spur.
The hollow of the lower petal is edged in white.
The base of each small flower stalk has a fan-shaped bract with deep notches.
The fruit is a broadly ovate capsule about 1 cm long and 1 cm wide.
The seeds have papillate projections.
The seeds have an appendage (caruncle) that ants like, and they are carried and dispersed by ants.
