Setaria faberi

Setaria faberi ("Akinoenokorogusa")

Japanese name: アキノエノコログサ (秋狗尾草、秋狗子草)
Scientific name: Setaria faberi

Setaria faberi

[Overview]
An annual 50–100 cm tall, found along roadsides and in thickets.
The stem often branches at the base.
The leaves are lanceolate, 30–40 cm long and about 2 cm wide.
The upper surface of the leaves often bears purplish hairs.
A cylindrical inflorescence emerges at the stem tip, and the spike droops slightly at the tip as it lengthens.
The inflorescence bears densely packed spikelets, each 3 mm long.
Because the second glume is shorter than the spikelet, the tip of the lemma of the second floret is visible.
