Cyperus difformis

[Overview]
An annual 15–40 cm tall, growing in paddy fields and wetlands.
The stems are soft, grow in tufts, and are bluntly triangular in cross section.
The leaves are linear, 0.2–0.5 cm wide, shorter than the stem, and the base forms a sheath that wraps around the stem.
Inflorescence branches of differing lengths emerge from the stem tip, and the spikelets form dense heads.
The inflorescence branches are 0–5 cm long or less.
2–3 long leaf-like bracts are attached at the base of the inflorescence.
The spikelets are dark purplish brown, flat and linear, about 0.3–1 cm long.
The fruit is about 0.5 mm long, obovate, with 3 ridges.
