Carex nubigena subsp. albata var. albata("Minoborosuge")
Japanese name: ミノボロスゲ(簑襤褸菅) Scientific name:Carex nubigena subsp. albata var. albata
[Overview]
A perennial 20–60 cm tall, growing on roadsides and in grassland in the mountains.
The rhizome is short and does not produce stolons.
The stem has slightly sharp three angles and is rough in the upper part.
The leaves are linear, 2–3 mm wide, and the front of the leaf sheath is membranous without wrinkles.
An ovoid-cylindrical inflorescence 3–5 cm long is borne at the stem tip, densely set with spikelets.
The spikelets are ovate-round, 5–8 mm long, with male flowers in the upper part and female flowers in the lower part.
The lower part of the inflorescence sometimes bears bracts that are slightly leaf-like.
The perigynia are triangular-lanceolate, 3–3.5 mm long, with fine veins and membranous; the upper margin is slightly rough, and the top gradually tapers into a beak.
[Notes]
The name is said to derive from its inflorescence resembling that of minoboro in the grass family.
