[Overview]
A perennial 20–40 cm tall, growing in damp grassland, on roadsides, and in wetlands in the mountains.
The rhizome is short and does not produce stolons.
The stem has blunt three angles and is smooth, not rough, even in the upper part.
The leaves are linear, 2–3 mm wide, and the front of the leaf sheath is membranous without wrinkles.
An ovoid-cylindrical inflorescence 2–3 cm long is borne at the stem tip, densely set with spikelets.
The spikelets are ovate-round, 5–8 mm long, with male flowers in the upper part and female flowers in the lower part.
The lower part of the inflorescence sometimes bears bracts that are slightly leaf-like.
The perigynia are ovate to broadly ovate, 3.5–4 mm long, with fine veins and membranous; the upper margin is slightly rough, and the top gradually tapers into a beak.
