Lilium medeoloides var. sadoinsulare ("Sadokurumayuri")

Japanese name: サドクルマユリ (佐渡車百合)
Scientific name: Lilium medeoloides var. sadoinsulare

[Overview]
A perennial 30–100 cm tall, growing on forest floors, at forest edges, and on logged sites.
It has a spherical bulb about 2 cm across underground.
The scales are white and not bitter; unlike Kuruma-yuri, they have no joints.
Simple leaves are borne in 1–3 whorl-like tiers near the middle of the stem.
The leaves are lanceolate, 5–15 cm long, with small projections on the margin.
A few small leaves are borne alternately on the upper part of the stem.
A raceme at the top of the stem bears one to several flowers facing sideways to obliquely downward.
There are 6 tepals, 3–4 cm long and reddish orange, with dark spots on the inner surface.
The tips of the tepals are strongly recurved.
The pollen is reddish brown.
The fruit is an obovate capsule about 2 cm long.
