[Overview]
A perennial 20–80 cm tall.
It has a rhizome.
The stem is often branched.
Leaves are simple and alternate, oblong, 4–9 cm long and 1–6.5 cm wide, with entire margins.
There is a petiole 0.5–1 cm long.
At the branch tips, 1–3 yellow, cylindrical flowers hang down.
The fruit is a spherical berry about 1 cm across, ripening blackish purple.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by division.
As long as the site is well drained and airy, it is not particular about soil.
It prefers a place with sun from autumn to spring and partial shade in midsummer.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Apply base fertilizer, and giving organic fertilizer in winter improves growth from spring and makes the plant sturdier.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
