Clerodendrum ×speciosum

[Overview]
An evergreen climbing shrub that twines its stems around other plants to climb.
The leaves are opposite, ovate, about 12 cm long, pointed at the tip, and entire.
The flowers are borne in cymes.
The calyx is pale red, pouch-shaped, with 5 ridges, and from within it appear deep red flowers 1.3–1.5 cm across and about 2 cm long.
The corolla is 5-lobed, and the stamens protrude far out.

[History]
It was produced by crossing Genpei-kazura and Clerodendrum splendens.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings.
It prefers sunny, well-drained soil.
It drops its leaves in cold temperatures, so it is best kept at 10 °C or above.
From spring to autumn, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; keep it on the dry side in winter.
From spring to autumn, place slow-release fertilizer on the soil.
Pests include aphids, scale insects and spider mites.
