Sedum

Sedum (genus, "Morimuramannengusa")

Japanese name: モリムラマンネングサ
Scientific name: Sedum

Sedum

[Overview]
A perennial 5–10 cm tall whose origin is unclear.
The stems spread over the ground in a mat, and the upper parts rise up.
The leaves are usually simple, in whorls of 3, linear-elliptical, about 0.5–1 cm long, and succulent.
Cymes at the stem tips bear yellow 5-petaled flowers about 0.8 cm across that open in a star shape.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by division or stem cuttings.
It prefers sunny, well-drained soil.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries in spring and autumn, place them where rain does not reach and reduce watering in summer, and rely on rainfall in winter.
For plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Go easy on fertilizer, applying a small amount of liquid fertilizer in spring and autumn.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
