Nandina domestica ‘Latifolia’

[Overview]
An old cultivar of Nanten.
It is dwarf.
The trunks grow in clumps and branch little.
The leaves are alternate and thrice-ternately compound; the leaflets are broad, rounded and entire.
The leaves turn a vivid red in autumn.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained site; avoid places exposed to strong afternoon sun or that dry out.
With poor sunlight, the autumn color develops badly.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
For plants in the ground, apply organic fertilizer in winter; for potted plants, apply slow-release fertilizer high in phosphorus and potassium at repotting.
Pests and diseases include mosaic disease, leaf blight, sooty mold, scale insects and leaf rollers, but damage is usually slight.
