Scientific name: Fuchsia

Fuchsia

[Overview]
A shrub.
The leaves are simple.
The flowers usually hang down, enclosed by a bell-shaped to tubular calyx tube, and the calyx lobes are triangular and curve backward.
The stamens and pistil project far out of the flower.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings.
It is safest to keep it at 5°C or above over winter, so bring potted plants indoors to a sunny spot in winter.
It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
From autumn to spring, place it in a sunny spot; in summer, place it in a cool, airy, partially shaded spot.
In spring and autumn, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; in winter, keep it on the dry side; in summer, water only so far as to avoid excess moisture.
In spring and autumn, apply slow-release fertilizer placed on the soil.
Pests and diseases include gray mold, sooty mold, greenhouse whitefly and spider mites.
