Scutellaria amabilis

[Overview]
A perennial 15–25 cm tall, found in woods in hilly areas.
It has a short rhizome and no creeping underground stems.
The stem creeps slightly along the ground at the base and then stands erect; it is square in cross section and has fine upward-pointing hairs on the ridges.
Leaves are simple and opposite, 1–3 cm long and 1–2 cm wide, broadly ovate to cordate-ovate, with fine hairs on both surfaces and blunt, coarse teeth on the margin.
The leaf stalk is 0.5–2 cm long.
A short pseudoraceme at the stem tip bears sparse flowers.
The corolla is 1.5–2 cm long and blue-purple; it is a lipped flower whose tube bends 90 degrees at the base and rises upward, with a hood-shaped upper lip and a 3-lobed lower lip.
The fruit is a schizocarp.
