Cynoglossum furcatum

[Overview]
A biennial 40–100 cm tall, found in grasslands and on bare ground in the mountains.
The whole plant is rather densely covered with short appressed hairs or ascending hairs no more than 1 mm long.
The stem is erect and branches in the upper part.
There are basal leaves and leaves arranged alternately on the stem; both are simple and entire.
The stem leaves are oblong, 10–25 cm long, rather thick in texture, with an acute to somewhat obtuse tip, and the leaves in the upper part of the stem are almost sessile.
A raceme 10–20 cm long at the stem tip bears rather dense flowers.
The flowers are 0.4 cm across, and the corolla is 5-lobed and pale bluish purple.
The flower stalks are 1 mm long at flowering and remain short, about 3 mm, in fruit.
The fruit is a schizocarp with dense hooked spines.
