Schizocodon soldanelloides var. soldanelloides("Iwakagami")
Japanese name: イワカガミ(岩鏡) Scientific name:Schizocodon soldanelloides var. soldanelloides
[Overview]
An evergreen perennial 10–20 cm tall, found on rocky ground in the mountains and around alpine wetlands.
It often grows in colonies.
The stem is slender and creeps along the ground.
The leaves are simple and clustered, round, 3–6 cm in both length and width, with a glossy surface.
The leaf margin has many pointed teeth.
It has long petioles.
A raceme at the tip of the flower stalk bears 3–10 nodding flowers.
The flowers are pale pink; the corolla is 5-lobed, and the edges of the lobes are finely divided into threads.
The fruit is a spherical capsule.
[Cultivation]
It prefers well-drained soil.
From autumn to spring, place it in a sunny spot; it is weak against heat, so in summer place it in cool, airy partial shade.
Water thoroughly when the soil surface dries.
In addition to basal fertilizer, apply slow-release chemical fertilizer in autumn.
[Notes]
The Japanese name comes from the fact that it grows on rocky ground and its leaves are round and glossy.
