[Overview]
An evergreen perennial 5–10 cm tall, found on the floor of beech forests in heavy-snow regions.
It often grows in colonies.
The stems are thin and creep along the ground.
Leaves are simple and clustered, round, 8–12 cm in both length and width, with a glossy upper surface.
The leaf margin has many pointed serrations.
There are long petioles.
A raceme at the tip of the flower stalk bears 1–5 nodding flowers.
The flowers are pale pink, and the corolla is 5-lobed with the lobe margins finely split into threads.
The fruit is a spherical capsule.
[Cultivation]
It prefers well-drained soil.
From autumn to spring, place it in a sunny spot; it dislikes heat, so in summer place it in cool, airy partial shade.
Water thoroughly when the soil surface dries.
Apply base fertilizer, and also slow-release fertilizer in autumn.
