Scientific name: Tristellateia australasiae

Tristellateia australasiae

[Overview]
An evergreen woody climber seen on seashores and at the edges of mangroves.
The vines grow to about 10 m.
The leaves are simple and opposite, oblong, 5–14 cm long.
One or two nectaries are present at the base of the petiole.
A raceme 5–15 cm long at the branch tip densely bears yellow five-petaled flowers 2 cm in diameter.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings.
It can be grown outdoors in the Nansei Islands.
It has weak cold tolerance and needs 10°C or more to overwinter, so in cold regions grow it as a potted plant and keep it through winter in a bright place such as by a window.
It prefers sunny, well-drained soil.
For potted plants, from spring to autumn water thoroughly when the soil surface dries, and keep it on the dry side in winter.
From spring to autumn, place slow-release fertilizer on the soil.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
