An evergreen small tree 4–10 m tall, growing in secondary forests and open woodlands.

The branches are thick, and young branches are hairy.
The leaves are simple and alternate, attached peltately to long petioles 6–15 cm long.

The female inflorescence is shorter than the male one and racemose, bearing a few female flowers, which are small, yellowish green and without petals.
The fruit is a capsule 5–15 mm long and 10 mm wide, flattened-spherical, with glandular dots and spines on the surface.
The seeds are spherical, about 5 mm in diameter.
