A small deciduous tree up to 5 m tall.
The thorns are thick, about 1 cm long, and few in number.
Young branches and inflorescences are densely covered with white soft hairs from the start, and the hairs persist.
The leaves are simple and alternate, broadly ovate to ovate, 5–10 cm long and 3.5–9 cm wide, shallowly pinnately lobed along 4–9 pairs of lateral veins.
The underside of the leaf is rather densely covered with white soft hairs, and the leaf margin is incised with sharp serrations.
The petiole is 2–3 cm long and covered with white soft hairs.
The stipules are semicircular with white soft hairs on the underside; those on long shoots are often large, with margins divided into 2–3 lobes and serrated.
Corymbs at the branch tips bear white 5-petaled flowers.
The inflorescence, pedicels, calyx tube and calyx have white soft hairs.
The flowers are 1–1.5 cm across, and the petals are nearly round with a slightly clawed base.
The stamens are long and protrude from the flower.
The fruit is spherical, 6–9 mm across, ripens black, and has a slightly depressed tip.
