Thalictrum alpinum var. stipitatum ("Himekaramatsu")

Japanese name: ヒメカラマツ (姫唐松)
Scientific name: Thalictrum alpinum var. stipitatum

Thalictrum alpinum var. stipitatum

[Overview]
A perennial 8–20 cm tall, found on windy alpine ridges and near summits, growing on gravelly ground and in wind-blown grasslands.
The stem does not branch.
There are basal leaves and leaves alternate on the stem; the basal leaves persist through the flowering period and are 2–3 times ternately compound, with the terminal leaflet ovate to broadly ovate, 0.3–0.8 cm in both length and width, and shallowly 3-lobed at the tip.
A raceme 3–10 cm long at the stem tip bears about 10 flowers about 0.5–1 cm across; there are no petals, and the petal-like yellowish green sepals also fall early after flowering.
The many stamens are conspicuous.
The fruit is a spindle-shaped achene with a short stalk.
