Japanese name: ケチヂミザサ(毛縮笹) Scientific name:Oplismenus undulatifolius var. undulatifolius
[Overview]
A perennial 10–30 cm tall, found in woodland and similar places.
The culm (stem) is slender, and the base creeps along the ground for a long distance and branches.
The leaves are simple and alternate, broadly lanceolate, 3–7 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, with wavy margins.
Both sides of the leaves are densely hairy.
The leaf base forms a sheath that clasps the stem, and the margin of the sheath is hairy.
The inflorescence is erect and 6–12 cm long, with many spreading hairs on the axis, and 6–10 branches that do not elongate and remain short, bearing spikelets densely.
The spikelets are about 0.3 cm long, consist of 2 florets, and are sparsely hairy.
The first glume has a long awn.
When the fruit ripens, a sticky fluid is secreted on the awns of the glumes, and the fruit is dispersed by sticking to animals and the like.
