Oplismenus undulatifolius var. japinicus("Kochijimizasa")
Japanese name: コチヂミザサ(小縮笹) Scientific name:Oplismenus undulatifolius var. japinicus
[Overview]
A perennial 10–30 cm tall, commonly found in shaded places in woodland.
It is slightly smaller than Chijimizasa.
The culm (stem) is slender, and the base creeps along the ground for a long distance and branches.
The leaves are simple and alternate, broadly lanceolate, 3–7 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, with wavy margins.
Both sides of the leaves bear only short hairs.
The leaf base forms a sheath that clasps the stem.
The inflorescence is erect and 6–12 cm long, with 6–10 branches that do not elongate and remain short, bearing spikelets densely.
The axis of the inflorescence is hairless.
The spikelets are about 0.3 cm long, consist of 2 florets, and are usually hairless.
The first glume has a long awn.
When the fruit ripens, a sticky fluid is secreted on the awns of the glumes, and the fruit is dispersed by sticking to animals and the like.
