Cymbopogon tortilis var. goeringii ("Ogarukaya")

Japanese name: オガルカヤ (雄刈茅、雄刈萱)
Scientific name: Cymbopogon tortilis var. goeringii

Cymbopogon tortilis var. goeringii

[Overview]
A perennial 0.6–1 m tall, growing in sunny grasslands on hills.
The stems and leaves have a faint lemon-like fragrance.
The culms (stems) are thin and hard, and grow in clumps.
The leaves are linear, 15–40 cm long and 0.3–0.5 cm wide, with the base forming a long sheath; the ligule is 0.1–0.3 cm long and nearly triangular.
Inflorescences enclosed in boat-shaped bract sheaths at the stem tip are further arranged in a cylindrical to conical shape, forming an inflorescence about 20–40 cm long.
Each inflorescence bears 2 racemes, 1.5–2 cm long, spreading horizontally, green and often tinged with reddish purple.
In each raceme, except for the lowest pair, sessile and stalked spikelets are arranged in pairs; the sessile spikelet is bisexual with an awn 1 cm long, and the stalked spikelet is male and awnless.
The lowest pair of spikelets are both sessile and male.
There are 3 stamens, with conspicuous blackish purple anthers.
