Oreorchis patens (common oreorchis, "Kokeiran")

Japanese name: コケイラン (小蕙蘭)
Scientific name: Oreorchis patens

Oreorchis patens

[Overview]
A perennial 10–20 cm tall, found in slightly moist places in subarctic to cool-temperate forests.
It has an ovate corm and bears two simple leaves alternately.
The leaves are lanceolate, 20–30 cm long and 1–3 cm wide, with pointed tips.
A raceme bears many yellowish brown flowers.
The sepals and lateral petals are lanceolate.
The lip is white with spots and is 3-lobed, with two raised ridges.

[Cultivation]
It prefers partial shade and fertile, well-drained soil.
During the growing period, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries, pouring gently at the base so that the leaves do not get wet.
In spring and autumn, apply diluted liquid fertilizer once a week.
