Arisaema seppikoense

Japanese name: セッピコテンナンショウ (雪彦天南星)
Scientific name: Arisaema seppikoense

[Overview]
A perennial found in mountain forests and on moist rocky ground.
There is a flattened-spherical corm underground.
There is usually 1 leaf, with 5–9 leaflets arranged like a bird's foot.
The leaflets are lanceolate to narrowly long-ovate, pointed, and entire.
White blotches often appear along the midrib of the leaflets.
The flower stalk is erect, lower than the leaf, and bears a spadix at its tip.
The inflorescence stalk is 1–5 cm long in male inflorescences and 7–11 cm long in female inflorescences.
The appendage at the tip of the inflorescence is 2–3.5 cm long and 0.1–0.2 cm in diameter, rod-shaped with a slightly swollen or rounded tip, and erect.
The spadix is enclosed by the spathe.
The limb of the spathe is usually longer than the tube, dark purple with 5 or fewer white longitudinal stripes, and narrowly ovate with a pointed tip.
In male inflorescences, the tip of the limb tends to narrow gradually and extend long.
The mouth margin of the spathe is slightly recurved outward, and the tube is purplish brown or green with white longitudinal stripes.
The fruit is an ovoid berry that ripens red.
The plant is dioecious; young individuals are male and change to female as they grow.
