Lemmaphyllum microphyllum var. microphyllum(green penny fern, "Mamezuta")
Japanese name: マメヅタ(豆蔦) Scientific name:Lemmaphyllum microphyllum var. microphyllum
[Overview]
An evergreen epiphytic fern that grows clinging to trees and rocks.
The rhizome is wiry, slender and irregularly branched.
The leaves are sparsely borne on the rhizome, and there are both vegetative leaves and spore-bearing leaves.
The vegetative leaves are round to elliptic, about 1–2 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, thick, with entire margins.
The spore-bearing leaves often stand upright; they are linear to spatulate, about 6 cm long and 0.2–0.5 cm wide, thick, with entire margins.
The sori are linear and arranged lengthwise on both sides of the midrib of the spore-bearing leaf; when the spores ripen, they spread over the entire underside.
[Cultivation]
Propagate by division.
Cut off a piece of rhizome with adventitious roots and either transplant it or tie it with string to a planting material for it to attach to.
It prefers sun to partial shade and an environment with high air humidity.
It is hardy and easy to grow.
When the surface of the planting material dries, water with a mist sprayer, and it is good to wet the leaves and stems as well.
Fertilizer is not particularly necessary.
