Santolina rosmarinifolia (holy flax)

Japanese name: グリーンサントリナ
Scientific name: Santolina rosmarinifolia

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub reaching about 60 cm in both height and spread.
The whole plant is fragrant.
It branches well and grows densely.
The leaves are alternate, green, slender, about 5 cm long, and finely cut.
A single flower head about 2 cm across, consisting only of bright yellow tubular florets, is borne at the tip of each branch.
The fruit is an achene without a pappus.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings or bud cuttings.
It can also be grown from seed.
It prefers sunny, well-drained, well-ventilated soil.
It dislikes heat and humidity.
Take care not to overwater; for potted plants, water thoroughly after the soil has dried, and for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
It is best fertilized sparingly; for potted plants, place a small amount of slow-release fertilizer on the soil in spring and autumn, and for plants in the ground none is particularly needed.
It is susceptible to stuffiness, so after flowering, promptly remove spent flowers and thin out crowded branches and leaves to improve air circulation.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
