Coronilla valentina (shrubby scorpion-vetch)

Japanese name: コロニラ バレンティナ
Scientific name: Coronilla valentina

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub about 0.3–1 m in both height and spread.
It branches well and grows densely.
The leaves are alternate and odd-pinnately compound.
There are 5–7 leaflets, broadly obovate.
4–13 yellow pea-shaped flowers are gathered in a head at the stem tip, and the flowers are fragrant.
The fruit is a pod.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings.
It dislikes being transplanted somewhat, so do not break up the root ball when repotting.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained place with dry, poor soil.
It can overwinter outdoors in areas without frost.
It dislikes heat and humidity, so in summer let it stay cool in an airy place in partial shade.
Take care not to overwater; for potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries, and for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Fertilize sparingly; for potted plants, apply a small amount of slow-release fertilizer in spring and autumn, watching the plant's condition.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
