Hypericum

Hypericum (genus)

Japanese name: ヒペリカム
Scientific name: Hypericum

Hypericum

[Overview]
An annual to shrub.
The leaves are simple and opposite (rarely whorled), with translucent dots and black dots.
The flowers are yellow and five-petaled, borne in cymes at the branch tips or solitary, with many long stamens that stand out.
The fruit is a capsule.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed, by cuttings, or by division.
It prefers a sunny place with good drainage and good water retention, and dislikes extreme dryness.
Direct sunlight and dryness in summer can cause leaf scorch, so it may also be grown in partial shade.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient unless summer brings a long spell of sunny weather and the soil becomes severely dry.
In spring and autumn, place slow-release fertilizer on the soil.
If pruning, do it in winter.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
