Crowea (genus)

Japanese name: クロウエア
Scientific name: Crowea

Crowea

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub.
It branches well.
The leaves are simple and alternate, with entire margins.
The flowers are borne singly in the leaf axils, or form umbels, cymes or racemes.
The flowers have five petals opening in a star shape, and are pink or white.
There are 10 stamens, surrounding the pistil.
The fruit is a capsule.
The seeds are glossy black.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings.
It prefers acidic soil that is sunny, airy, well drained and moisture-retentive.
Strong direct sun in summer can scorch the leaves, so move potted plants to partial shade in summer.
For potted plants, take care that they do not dry out and water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
In spring and autumn, place slow-release chemical fertilizer on the soil.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
